Jack Rosenthal At ITV ATV & Central programmes

Postby ATV London on Tue Jun 20, 2006 2:24 pm

On the DVD release Jack Rosenthal At ITV apart from the many Granada, and the odd LWT, Yorkshire, Carlton & Thames programmes. thare are one from both ATV & Central.

From ATV
"'Mrs. Thursday - You Don't Have to Book Buckingham Palace: Cockney char lady Alice Thursday becomes the main beneficiary to a retired tycoon's estate. His four money-grabbing ex-wives are none too pleased! Starring Kathleen Harrison and Hugh Manning. "
Made in B&W original ITV transmission 3rd May 1966
ATV Midland logo at start but only the end of the logo most of it lost. and an ATV end cap at the end.

From Central
"'About Face - Bag Lady': Considered by Rosenthal as one of his finest pieces of work, this "to-camera monologue" features his wife, Maureen Lipman, as a vagrant who lives off the London streets."
original ITV transmission 11th December 1989
No logo at start. end cap A Central Production for ITV logo.

the disc set has 5 discs with 17 Acclaimed Comedies & Dramas running time of 915 mins approx not a bad price of around ?30 for this set on line.

It sounds good, ATV London. :D As I saw it was from Network I ordered it immediately. Thanks for pointing it out! As I say - thanks for mentioning it - I now have the Jack Rosenthal set from Network and it's a very good set with some excellent programmes ( just a pity about the quality of the Bootsie & Snudge episode.)

I must say, I've seen the programme listing on this DVD set and it seems to be an eclectic selection. :)

But I'll wait until next year's sales, when it'll be knocked down in price to ?11.99. :P

i had my copy on order from Sendit.com for ?10.59
but they cancelled the order saying they thought it was a 1 disc set and the RRP was ?39.99 there price would be ?29.99 but as of the error i could have a copy for ?24.99. i did notice the low price on the HMV site but i though that they are bound to cancel the order at that price.

HMV.co.uk does seam to be slow with there DVD's at the moment
i have 2 other Network sets on order from them, which most other websites say in stock, but they keep sending me emails saying
"Unfortunately the items below are not currently in stock and we have ordered them for you from our supplier"

if it was not for the cheeper price i would cancel the order but soon i will look at paying the bit extra to get them.

Received it today - there are some very good programmes on it including Coronation Street (Blackpool Illuminations) from Oct 1961 (I was 4 days old when this was first transmitted! :o ) Pardon The Expression (2 episodes) Bootsie & Snudge from 1963 and some of Rosenthal's single plays inc. Another Sunday and Sweet F.A., Ready When You Are, Mr. McGill, Spaghetti Two-Step, Mrs. Thursday (ATV) and About Face - Bag Lady (Central.) All in all a very good 5 disc set and not bad value for ?29.99.

Oh well, no luck today. Lets hope its here before next week now.

And no Beasts, yet I know I'll get that by Monday. Might watch one of my copied episodes. Was actually watching the episode with Pauline Quirke playing a shop assistant on the proper DVD set yesterday at work. My god, the picture of her with lipstick smeared all over her lips and teeth really hasnt left me since I first saw it!

ARRRGGGHHH!!!!!

Got mine too this morning ATV LONDON.

A great set, already watched SPECIAL OFFER and THE DUMMY.

Its great to actually watch these in broadcast quality. I did have quite a good VHS copy from a friend, but this beats it!

A greta little set methinks. Just printed off the ATV brochure to read while the other half is watching Big Brother!

ATV LONDON, fancy doing a little review of it? :D

I never bought this, but I am buying DVD's and a big fan of one of Jack Rosenthal's long running and popular dramas, 'London's Burning'. Now all 14 series have been released i'm buying them :)

The funny thing is when it was originally on I wasn't a fan, I was scared of fire when I was little!
"well it's 5 past 9 and nearly time for 6 past 9
on BBC2 it'll shortly be 6 and a half minutes past 9
Later on this evening it'll be 10 o' clock
and at 10:30 we'll be joining BBC2 in time for 10:33
and don't forget tomorrow when it'll be 9:20
Those of you who missed 8:45 on friday we'll be able to see it again this friday at a quarter to 9!"
